this is exactly why i love color! and this is one of those shoots i’ll never forget and one of those shoots that goes down like i want all of mine too. i have a small rough idea of a vision up in my head, but then i get a child that takes that idea and runs with it, brings it life better than i could have ever dreamed and makes it all their own. children have the best imaginations and their own amazing creativity, and that’s just one of the reasons i love what i do and why i love photographing children. it’s not about me and what i make them do – it’s what they do all on their own.

miss s goes to school at preschool enrichment (pse), which is where my two oldest children also attend. we brought this concept to life for a project underway to update some of the photos in their hallways. we have been there for 2.5 years and i could not have designed a better program for my kids. if you think your school is the coolest, think again. what other school out there lets you paint their walls? yep, that’s right – only pse does.

while their academics are insanely excellent (and i could be a proud mom and brag about what my kids know and do), that’s not the #1 reason i am there. i am there because of the life coaching, character building and christian foundation that they provide. they raise up leaders, require first time listeners (my favorite phrase we have adopted at home!), teach manners and support the parents. i am also there for the people – i don’t care if you have a degree or not, if you have a heart for my child, that is all you need. i am there because they encourage peforming, singing, public speaking, praying out loud, and plenty of other things like sign language, spanish, ipad time, gardening, discovery, arts and crafts and soooo many other over-the-top fun events that kids go crazy for. i was sold from the minute i set foot in the door – a modest building, reminiscient of a quaint old schooldhouse, that i knew was just right from the start. i blog all this truly to share the experience and inspiration behind the shoot and behind what i wanted to capture for them, but also to encourage any of you on the hunt for a school, to go check out pse. you will not be disappointed!!

Julie - Gorgeous images and such a creative idea! I think I will also be adopting the “first time listeners” phrase….love it and we definitely need some help in that area!
