mr. h’s room…revealed!

so this is what you get when you are out of space in your house and you don’t find out what gender the baby is before it is born! i am so glad i took my hubby’s advice to come up with something gender neutral before mr. h arrived rather than trying to put something together now. where in the world would i find the time? he was right:) so we fell in love with the idea of a gray and yellow nursery that would double as a guest bedroom. we still have some more accents to throw in the room for finishing touches, but ta da, here it is…

all bedding is from target and i found a sweet lady to custom make the roman shade with a matching bedskirt for the crib. the trees are decals, which were my splurge for the room! found them on etsy here. gotta be honest and warn you that these are a booger of a project. like 10 hours worth of cutting out, designing your own tree, peeling off 2 sets of contact paper, etc. you might think these ship out as one giant tree that you peel and stick, but no such reality:) still love the finished look though!

and here is one of my sentimental touches for the room – an old door. i love antiques and almost anything distressed, so this was the perfect piece of decor too to span the giant wall in h’s room. this door came from an old house my grandpa used to own. we did paint it yellow though:) and like any good photographer, i did not bolt this to the wall so that i could take it down to use for shoots! it makes for a fabulous backdrop, i must say, and the back side of the door is a little different and equally fabulous. lamp is from homegoods.

and here is the view of h’s crib. pretty simple but that’s how i like it since it seems i breed babies that like to roll towards the bumper and face plant into them. and since i’m a worrier, it always came off at 3 months, so this time, we’re keeping it “airy.” above the crib is my very favorite accent and another sentimental spin. the white chunky frame is an old frame that my parents had from when they first got married and it now encircles my 3 little angels:) it used to hang in miss m’s old room in black and with her name spelled out in letters inside, but i wanted to change it up for h and so here it is displayed with a 20×30 gallery wrap floating inside. the gray wall gives the effect of a mat, and i just love how it turned out!

above picture found on etsy. this is one of the nursery accents that hasn’t arrived yet, but it is a mobile that will hang to the left of h’s crib in the corner. i love how the sticks will pull in the tree decals, plus tie in with the tree and branches pictured in the image of all 3 kids. i want to find some owl and birdie pillows for the crib and bed too!

and this is the $10 dresser derek found at a garage sale. again, out of space – had to work it in. with a little tlc , some fresh paint and new knobs, i am in love with my $10 dresser.

Michelle - SO impressive! How in the world do you do this?! A.m.a.z.i.n.g! I love how it’s so functional, creative, gorgeous, and sentimental. Who can do that?!

kristin cook - Okay…now I’m REALLY dying!!! I’m smiling ear to ear! LOVE the yellow door!

Karen - Lovely, I love it all!!!!

april - Darling….do you mind sharing the gray paint color you chose?? Thanks!

Julie - I second April’s question. What gray is that? It seems perfect!

Stefanie - Such a gorgeous room! So many great ideas :) I would love to know the name of the yellow paint you used for the door. Thanks!

marisa pryor - Do you happen to recall the name/brand of the gray paint you used on the walls? I am repainting my dining room this weekend and would love to do this color!

Jennifer - I absolutely LOVE what you did with that frame. I am not very good at judging size and I am going to try and copy your amazing idea! :) I am curious what size is the white frame? Also what type of paint did you use – it looks amazing. Now if I can only find an vintage frame as awesome as that one! :) Thanks again for sharing your crafty ideas – love them!

admin - Ladies, i FINALLY found the paint color – SO SORRY to keep you hanging. It is Woodlawn Colonial Gray by Valspar, available at Lowe’s. I LOVE it – also painted our master bathroom in this color – looks great in all lights and is a TRUE gray (no purple or blue undertones).

admin - The frame was painted with the classic white satin paint from valspar that you can buy off the shelf.

The frame is a custom crazy size – I would find your frame first and then back into a a canvas for the inside. For reference, my canvas is 20×30 in size with approx 4″ of wall around it. Frame is close to 30×40 in size.

Alaina Bos - I love this post! You rock at designing :) I’m totally loving your blog design too. I designed mine using ProPhoto4 as well. I’ll definitely be back to see what you’re up to!

Paula - Love the room! I especially love the color of the yellow door, I would love to know the name of it.

Amy - I love the room! I have almost the exact same door that I would love to paint that same yellow color. Do you you know the name of it?

admin - i matched a yellow pillow that i had found at target (in the photos on the blog). i went to home depot and used Behr brand interior eggshell enamel (deep base no. 2300).
there is a grid/sticker on the can that reads as follows:

CLRNT AX F KX L
_oz_ 2 0 0 0
384th 188 2 175 21

Chelsea balint - Where is the crib from?
